Renay Blumenthal - President of Grady Health Foundation

Monday, August 13th the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs will be welcoming Renay Blumenthal as our guest speaker.

In a career spanning nearly 30 years, Renay has forged a reputation as one of Atlanta's most respected community leaders -- with deep ties to metro Atlanta's civic, business, foundation, and political sectors.

Her career spans a rare mix of both public and private sector experience with over 14 years experience in key leadership roles in state and city government and 15 years private sector experience in strategy, policy development and execution, staff management, finance, budget and external affairs. Proven and experienced problem solver, project manager, communicator and consensus builder known for achieving results.

Prior to being named president of the Grady Health Foundation in September 2013, she served as senior vice president of public policy for the Metro Atlanta Chamber for nearly 10 years where she directed initiatives to strengthen the region and city.

A native Atlantan, Renay is a cum laude graduate of Georgia Tech and has an MBA from Georgia State University. She was named a Georgia Trend “40 under 40” in 2001 and was a member of the Leadership Georgia class in 2000 and Leadership Atlanta class in 2006. She has also been named a “Power Chick” for four years in a row by James Magazine as one of the top Georgia female lobbyists. She was also recognized as a Woman of Achievement by the YWCA in 2009 and received an Impact Leader award by Business to Business magazine in 2010.

Renay currently serves on various boards, including chair of Leadership Atlanta, immediate past chair of the Clean Air Campaign, Georgia Forward and Women’s Forum of Georgia. She and her husband Ned, an attorney, live in Atlanta and have two young children.

Last Week at Rotary
Shannon Flounnory, Executive Director Administative Center Safety & Security

Shannon pointed out school safety concerns. Like:

  • Weapons
  • Drugs
  • Gangs
  • Acute / Chronic Fighting
  • Suicide
  • Human Trafficking
  • Domestic Violence
  • Dating Abuse

And many others.

“No matter how much money or how many safety and security tools a facility can purchase, the most common failure to safety and security is human error. The term “People over Products” stresses the important role of the individuals within a school in regard to safety. It is critical to ensure training opportunities are provided to employees and students, ensure awareness programs are taking place for the implemented safety and security measures, and employees and students are being empowered to be the most important line of defense.”

Upcoming Program - August 20th, 2018
Karen Handel to speak

"On June 20, 2017, the voters of Georgia's 6th Congressional District elected me as their next congressman. It's an amazing privilege. I was sworn in on June 26 and assigned as a member on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Judiciary Committee."

Prior to becoming the first female to represent Georgia in the United States House of Representatives, Congresswoman Karen Handel held policy and communications positions with several major corporations and nonprofit organizations. She served in the Bush-Quayle White House, as deputy chief of staff to Governor Sonny Perdue, and as the CEO of one of Georgia's largest chambers of commerce.
After being elected Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, Karen quickly distinguished herself as a problem-solver and smart negotiator -- plugging a $ I 00 million budget deficit without raising taxes, delivering the County's first truly balanced budget, and achieving significant ethics reforms. One of just five women ever to be elected to statewide office in Georgia, Karen was Georgia's 26th Secretary of State, and its first Republican Secretary of State. In this role, Karen successfully implemented various elections integrity reforms, including photo ID, and executed a much-needed, agency-wide modernization initiative while cutting the department's budget by nearly 20%.
In Congress, Karen serves on the House Judiciary Committee and on the Education and the Workforce Committee. Earlier this year, she was also appointed to the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), a bipartisan group of 20 Senators and Representatives split evenly by party affiliation. In this capacity, she is tasked with reviewing economic conditions and recommending improvements to national economy policy.

For the past 25 years, Karen and her husband Steve have lived in the 6th District, which stretches from Marietta to Brookhaven, and from Milton to Sandy Springs.

Here is your chance to meet one of our elected officials. Questions and answers will follow her presentation.
