On July 1st, Christopher Tomlinson, the executive director of the State Road and Tollway Authority visited the Sandy Springs Rotary Club. Mr. Tomlinson plays a major role in the transit planning of Georgia. With all the construction plans the state has for the foreseeable future, he joked while suggesting that it might be wise to stock in companies that produce the orange cones and construction barrels.
He leads three agencies which are:
1.) State Road & Tollway Authority (SRTA) – It operates GA toll roads & Peach Pass system, it also operates the Xpress Commuter Coach Service & administrates metro Atlanta’s Vanpool Network
2.) Georiga Regional Transportation Authority – A 15 member board appointed by the governor. It handles developments of regional impact, air quality reporting, the Transit Advisory Board and Public Comment Venue fro SRTA Operations
3.) Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority – A unifying entity for the Atlanta region that ensures coordinated transit planning and funding, and increased transparency.
As the leader of three different but related authorities in Atlanta, he shared with the club his unique view of the overall needs for Georgia’s transit challenges. He claims that although they are three agencies, they have one focus, which is “Improving Mobility & Connectiivity”. With the creation of the ATL, coupled with SRTA & GRTA, the State of Georgia has an entity that is focused on connecting people, jobs and communities through preferred mobility options and innovative solutions.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs would like to offer its warmest thanks to Mr. Tomlinson for his thoughtful and highly informative presentation which gave us all insight to the problems and solutions that we all face as we move around Georgia.
