On Monday, March 11th Ashley Steele will be our guest speaker for lunch. Ashley Steele is from Charlotte, North Carolina but moved to Atlanta in 2017. Prior to working for the American Red Cross as a Regional Philanthropy Officer, she was the Assistant Director of Alumni Development at Emory University School of Law. Ashley oversaw the young alumni annual giving program, the reunion giving program, as well as major gifts and legacy gifts. Ashley now manages major gifts for the American Red Cross, a job she feels is a passion project -she gets to spend every day talking to people about the mission of the Red Cross and help save lives. Ashley went to the University of South Carolina where she received her B.S. in Exercise Physiology. She then went on to UNC Chapel Hill School of Law where she received her J.D. in May 2017.
Please come out and give Ashley a warm Rotary welcome.

On Monday, March 4th, the Sandy Springs Rotary Club welcomed Brent C Brown to visit and a free lunch. Brent told us a little about himself and his career as a “beat cop” and that he was humbled yet still proud of his current work. His job involves the day-to-day protection of peoples throughout the world from looming treats. Very quickly Brent turned his presentation toward the pressing issues of today. He started talking about treats to America, and to each of us as individual citizens.
He asked us to remember September 11th, 2001. He asked us to remember the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 where he pointed out that it was just one beat cop out doing his job at a routine traffic stop that busted the case wide open. He spoke not just about domestic threats by reminding us of the 1995 London IRA attacks. Bringing his presentation back home and into our backyard, he reminded us of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing of 1996. He noted that the perpetrator was found to be a “home grown terrorist”, rather than what we think of as a terrorist in today’s terms. With all these threats surrounding us every day, Brent began to talk about what is being done to protect our way of life and how his security firm Chesley Brown International is helping.
From sophisticated WAKE trained K-9 units for bomb sniffing to corporate espionage deterrents to the simplest email attack awareness, he covered the gambit of possible threats. He asked us all to be watchful for our own safety and for those around us. His presentation covered many other aspects of his related duties and how the private security industry is now being embraced by our vast governmental agencies. He points out that their symbiotic relationship benefits all.
Some of his parting thoughts were words to the wise: "Google 'Latest threat' " and remain vigilant against fraud.
He ended on a bright note by saying: "The good news is there are some very bright people watching over us to keep us safe."
The Rotary Club would like to give personal thanks to Brent for all his hard work and efforts to protect the citizens of Sandy Springs, Atlanta, the USA, and the world.
