On September 17, we are proud to lend the microphone to Carol Tome of The Home Depot. Come out, have a lunch, hear about the amazing things this top tier company has done for Sandy Springs. Bring your questions. Since Rotary is a "Service above Self" club, here are four ways The Home Depot give back to our community that for which you can ask: The Home Depot Foundation , The Electronic Recycling Program, Building Businesses Responsibility, and Honoring our Verterans

Here is a segment from Carol's bio:

Carol B. Tome has served as chief financial officer since May 2001 and was named executive vice president of corporate services at The Home Depot in January 2007. She provides leadership in the areas of real estate, financial services and strategic business development. Her corporate finance duties include financial reporting and operations, financial planning and analysis, internal audit, investor relations, treasury and tax.

Carol joined The Home Depot in 1995. Prior to that, she was vice president and treasurer of Riverwood International Corporation. Carol began her career as a commercial lender with United Bank of Denver (now Wells Fargo) and then spent several years as director of banking for the Johns-Manville Corporation.

In 2003, Carol joined the UPS board of directors and currently serves as chair of the audit committee. From January 2008 through December 2013, Carol served as a board member for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, in both a board chair and board vice-chair capacity. In 2012, she chaired the board of The Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the second woman chair in the organization's 150-year history.

Carol serves as a trustee or board member for a number of organizations including Grady Hospital. Carol also serves as Chair of the Policy Advisory Board for the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies and Vice Chair of the board of trustees for the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Further, she is a member of The Committee of 200 and The Buckhead Coalition.

In 2012, The Wall Street Journal ranked Carol No. 2 on its list of the best chief financial officers in corporate America and in 2013, Fortune magazine listed her among the top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, for the second consecutive year. In 2013, Carol was named a laureate and a member of the Junior Achievement of Georgia Business Hall of Fame. In 2011, she received a distinguished alumna award from the University of Wyoming. Carol was recognized with the 2009 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans award by BDN Network and the 2009 CFO of the Year award by the CFO Roundtable. She ranked No. 16 in Forbes magazine's 2008 list of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women and was included by The Wall Street Journal on its list of 50 Women to Watch in 2007.

Carol holds a bachelor's degree ln communication from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Denver.

Last Week at Rotary
Dave Wilkinson shared experiences with the CIA

Monday, September 10th, Dave Wilkinson shared many of his experiences from his life in the Secret Service.

With twenty-two years experience in the CIA and having the privilege to have spent 9 of those years directly serving the sitting Presidents Clinton and Bush, he certainly had a lot of stories to share. The stressed most of all of his prevailing impression of those folks working in the white house. He noted that they seemed to have no secret agendas, they worked very hard, exercised strong ethics and of the presidents especially, he noted the many early mornings and late nights where they worked tirelessly.

He shared many personal stories, some embarrassing, some poignant, some hilarious, but most of all he noted that the two presidents that he had the honor to work closely with were just real people. Both presidents faced all the same issues we face in life, and were just trying to make their way through each day. They solved problems the same way we do, they asked for help and advice frequently, and finally he noted that even though they had risen to the highest office in the country, they were just as real as you and me.
