Welcome to the Sandy Springs Rotary Club

Welcome Sandy Springs Rotarians to the new Rotary year. It will be hard to top last year but we'll do it with your help & support. Kudos to past president Nancy Schroeder and PDG Jim Squire for your service and helping the club receive many awards at the District Celebration including our second "Club of the Decade" designation.

Some changes are being made in our club's meeting program to make it more varied & interesting. We will be adding the Sandy Springs Business Spotlight, a third raffle drawing, and wine one meeting a month. Members are now asked to come a little earlier as lunch will begin at noon with the program to start promptly at 12:15. Along with our traditional club events & projects we'll have a couple more service projects/media events, membership events (Rotary Pizza Night at Pontoon) and different Family of Rotary social events. I look forward to engaging with you to make it a exciting year.

Visitors are welcome to experience the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs' hospitality and energy. Meetings are typically the 1st, 2nd & 4th Mondays. Upcoming Program
Jamie Shepherd, COO of Shepherd Center

On Monday August 10th, The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs is welcoming Jamie Shepherd to the podium.

Jamie Shepherd, MBA, MHA, is the chief operating officer at Shepherd Center. Jamie, the son of Shepherd Center co founder James H. Shepherd, Jr., has followed in his family's footsteps by contributing to Shepherd Center's mission of helping people with a temporary or permanent disability caused by injury or disease, rebuild their lives with hope, independence and dignity.

In his role as COO, Jamie has the responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation and coordination of clinical operations. He provides the leadership, management and strategic vision necessary to ensure Shepherd Center has the proper processes and resources in place to effectively optimize the clinical operations of the hospital, ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency.

Jamie also oversees the hospital's community services and risk mana ement functions. In his community services role, Jamie provides guidance and support to patients and their families after discharge by engaging them in programs that promote health, wellness and independence, aiding in the reduction of unplanned readmissions and their associated costs.

Jamie is a founding member of the Shepherd Center Society and a board member of Shepherd Center. He also is a representative of the hospital at numerous fundraisers, as well as within the community.

Jamie previously served as a strategic project analyst at Shepherd Center, reporting directly to the chief financial officer and director of quality. In this role, he was part of the financial team that creates, analyzes and reconciles budgets for all hospital departments.

Jamie received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He earned master's degrees in business administration and health administration from Georgia State University. In 2019, the Atlanta Business Chronicle named Jamie as a part of their 40 Under Forty.

Outside of work, Jamie enjoys hunting, fishing, attending University of Georgia football games and spending time with his wife Sarah and their four children.

All are welcome to join the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs in giving Mr. Shepherd a warm Rotary welcome.

Previous Program
Murang Pak of Global Risk Advisers talked about today's need to protect data.

Monday, August 3rd, co-founder and President of Global Risk Advisers, Murang Pak, addressed the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. Mr. Pak spoke a little about himself and Global Risk Advisers. Global Risk Advisers provides a range of security products and advisory services to governments and multinational corporations worldwide. Without going into detail about the products and services that GRA provides, he rather chose to talk about why there is need for such a company.

While serving in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mr. Pak participated in private sector outreach programs, one of which is called the Domestic Security Alliance Council or DSAC. This experience gave him a unique view into different kinds of threats that affect companies in Atlanta and nationwide. In this position he observed just how much information, our “Digital Exhaust” as he called it, is left out on the web like footprints in the sand. He claims that in today’s economy, data is the most valuable commodity. “Whoever can attain as much data as possible, analyze it, make sense of it, and act on it, …they win.”, he says. Having so much data easily accessed about each one of us, potentially makes us all vulnerable. Protecting privacy, protecting from cyber-attacks, protecting intellectual property, and protecting research being done in our universities are each reason enough for Mr. Pak to have started GRA.

Murang Pak of Global Risk Advisers and John Neill,  2020-2021 President of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs would like to thank Mr. Pak for his dedication to the essential role he plays in protecting people throughout the world.
