Jim Thomas, founder of Alliance for Integrity addressing the Rotary club of Sandy Springs.
On Monday August 12th, 2019 the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs had as it’s guest speaker, Jim Thomas. Mr. Thomas is the founder of Alliance for Integrity, LLC. The Alliance for Integrity seeks to foster a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance across companies.
He began his presentation with a reminder of the very first question that we Rotarians must always ask ourselves; “Of the things we think say or do, is it the truth?” Mr. Thomas’ presentation was structured around three major points and he unpacked each one with clarity and a touch of comic relief.
Point one had to do the “authentic meaning of the word integrity”.
He quoted 1970’s senator Bill Bradley to this: “Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you.”
Point two was a study of the main tenets of integrity.
One of its main tenets was that the truth is clear and unmistakable.
Another is that the Truth is never wrong. Ones willingness to state where they stand and to stand by their convictions is perhaps the most major tenet of integrity.
And point three had to do with binding one’s actions to one’s conditions. Jim told us the story of Egil “Bud” Krogh. Bud lived a fascinating life. He was incarcerated for following the orders of a corrupt president and learning from that brutal lesson to become an expert in the area of integrity, ethics and what it takes identify and hold true to core values. An interesting video presentation from Bud Krogh can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Gn5ECbnxIc

It is with much sadness that we share this news from the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. Our beloved friend and Rotarian Cheryl Lietz passed away Friday morning, August 9th, after a very brave, two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Cheryl demonstrated the utmost positive attitude and selflessness throughout her cancer journey, as she did in her life and her work as the resident manager at the Campbell-Stone retirement community in Sandy Springs. Her ceaseless sense of humor and style never abated with funny comments and texts as well as colorful decorations in her various hospital rooms, including in hospice. Cheryl felt her mission among us was to help others. This was clearly evident in her never-ending warmth and her empathy and compassion for whomever she came into contact. We will sorely miss her."
A service for Cheryl will be held
Saturday, August 17th at 10am at
First Christian Church of Decatur
601 W. Ponce de Leon, Decatur, Georgia.
A remembrance in the Toy Park next to the church will follow.
This is the latest version of the artwork. It is not final. This current version reflects a name change from Oktoberfest to Beer Festival. All are welcome to offer constructive criticism. Just contact Todd at tlawrimore@gmail.com or call (404)435-4192.
