Atlanta Police Foundation (APF) President and CEO Dave Wilkinson joined the Foundation in 2005. Before Joining the Foundation, Dave retired as the Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service, Georgia Region. During his 22-year tenure with the Secret Service, Dave served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Office of Investigations as well as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protection Division, serving under Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush. Dave also served as the Principle Federal Official for the Department of Homeland Security and led all security efforts for the G8 Summit in Sea Island, Georgia June 2004. Dave was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from President Bush for supervision of agents and decisive actions on September 11, 2001.
Dave Wilkinson leads of APF in its mission to make Atlanta the safest large city in the nation and provide viable solutions that address public safety concerns. Under Dave's leadership, APF has helped develop programs and initiatives that have led to a dramatic 40% decrease in overall crime.
Dave is a respected thought leader in the field of public safety. In 2015, after being asked by Mayor Kasim Reed to convene a commission to address the issue of Repeat offenders in the city of Atlanta, The Atlanta Police Foundation published a detailed report of various findings; and an appointed team of stakeholders presented recommendations and action plans to make serious and necessary improvements in the criminal justice system. Through Dave's leadership as chair of the Atlanta Repeat Offenders Commission, this study has been extremely successful, and the team has already made effective changes in the system.
In 2017, Dave led the "Vision Safe Atlanta" initiative where business, academic and law enforcement leaders worked closely with Atlanta Mayoral candidates to build a proposed public safety plan for 2018 through 2022. Vision Safe Atlanta builds on the momentum in crime reduction and emergency preparedness with focus on technology, youth crime, repeat offenders, infrastructure and police staffing. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has enthusiastically adopted the plan and is working closely with the APF, APD and others to execute the key components of the strategy during her first term in office.
Please come out to meet Dave, hear more and ask questions.
More information can be found at the Atlanta Police Foundation web site.
In her address to the club on Monday, August 21st Karen gave us all an opportunity to hear first-hand of the work that is currently being done in the local, state, and federal levels of our government.
She spoke on Military spending, school safety, the opioid crisis and alternative pain management research, human trafficking, and the $184,000,000 federal grant received for the GA.400 project toll lane project.
Perhaps most importantly she reminded us to please stay in contact with all of your representatives and let them know what you think. If you have thoughts to share or want to learn more go to https://handel.house.gov/ and sign up for her newsletter to stay up-to-date.
These photos in their original resolution and many more are available at Zenfolio.com/RotaryClubOfSandySprings.
Below is a recap from last weeks newsletter.
"On June 20, 2017, the voters of Georgia's 6th Congressional District elected me as their next congressman. It's an amazing privilege. I was sworn in on June 26 and assigned as a member on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Judiciary Committee."
After Azizi William's (Director of Communications and Community Engagement) presentation, she asked that this video link be shared to all of you. It is worth watching as it illuminates Grady brilliantly.
Please watch and enjoy.
