PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Welcome to the Sandy Springs Rotary Club

Welcome Sandy Springs Rotarians, friends and guests.

So far, this Rotary year has been challenging coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank all who have been able to attend meetings in person and on Zoom. Although our service projects have been limited by the virus we have been able to help school children needing distance learning and for those in our community needing food. We are also doing great with our medical recycling program benefiting seniors. I thank our club members and officers in working hard to hopefully have our club once again achieve “Club of the Year” status.

Visitors are welcome to experience the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs' hospitality and energy. Meetings are typically the 1st, 2nd & 4th Mondays. Lunch is served at noon and the 1 hour program begins at 12:15. Hilton Perimeter Suites, 6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

Reserve a spot by going to our website at www.sandyspringsrotary.org. Join your fellow professionals, community and business leaders, and learn how Rotary can benefit your future. Experience Rotary Making Things Happen in Sandy Springs!

Upcoming Program
Kody Miller from Fades for Faith is Putting Service Before Self

Monday February 22, 2021, Kody Miller, the Executive Director and founder of Fades for Faith will be visiting the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. Fades for Faith is a nonprofit organization that works with men in recovery. They provide volunteers to visit men’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers to offer free grooming services.

"You do not just treat addiction. You end up treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, loneliness, rage, despair, toxic secrets, regret, undiagnosed head trauma, untreated ADHD. Then you realize addiction is often someone’s best attempt to cope when they don’t see other options."
Kody Miller is an Atlanta native and master barber currently working at 1818 Fine Men’s Salon in Brookhaven. Kody says that giving back to the community has given her a freedom and sense of purpose that she has never felt before. She lives in Decatur, has a 20 year old son (Aiden, who is now a second generation barber) and is engaged to be married. Kody has also found a passion for honeybees. She is excited to start her own apiary this spring.

This meeting can be attended in-person at the Hilton Suites.
6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, NE Sandys Springs Georgia
The meeting begins at 12:15pm and ends at 1:15pm

This meeting can also be attended remotely via Zoom:

Previous Program
British Consulate, Andrew Staunton Addressed the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs

On Monday, February 8th, 2021, Andrew Staunton from the British Consulate spoke virtually to the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. Mr. Staunton said, “Put simply, The British Consulate General in Atlanta maintains and develops relations between the UK and the USA.”

Mr. Staunton covered many aspects of his work. When Andrew described the current state of Brexit, he spoke about opportunities of alliances between our two economies and the challenges that lie ahead. Mr. Staunton understands how important a free trade agreement will be to bringing together the world’s largest and the world’s fifth largest economy. He notes that it could and should be the “gold-standard” especially in the areas of digital trade, intellectual property, and business mobility.

Mr. Staunton described the United Kingdom approach to handling COVID-19. He noted that the UK is incredibly open therefore had a high percentage of cases, but also noted that they have already vaccinated over 12 million people in a first wave. The UK has also already procured enough vaccine of each person and has plans to distribute any excesses in an expedient manor.

Andrew spoke of some of most important goals that the UK is striving toward. Those include getting back into advanced manufacturing and life sciences, especially when it involves renewable energy, he stated. “Consumers are now demanding that we respect our planet more.”

The UK is a service-based economy, “About 80% of our GDP flows from services.”

Coat of Arms displayed, "God and my right" is the motto of the Monarch of the United Kingdom outside Scotland

Andrew is responsible for the South East region of the United States, which includes Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina & Tennessee, but somehow seems to miss Florida.

It must be included that Andrew is also a fellow Rotarian from the Atlanta Rotary Club.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs would like to thank Mr. Staunton for all that he does to maintain, grow and support our most precious common goals between the UK and the US.
